Not exactly subtle, is it?
My thoughts exactly. We’re reaping what they have sown, and all they can do is say they’re praying for the victims…which does absolutely nothing except make you look compassionate and feel good about yourself.
Look, I’m atheist but I get it. I know that many people feel that the only thing they can do is pray, and I know that it makes you feel good. Of course in cases of natural disasters these praying folks could at least donate some money to help the survivors, though I’m sure many don’t because praying (and telling everyone about it on Twitter, naturally) is just easier.
But when it comes to these daily mass shootings, there’s definitely a feeling of helplessness. I understand why peoples’ first reaction is to pray for the victims, and that’s fine…whatever helps you cope in this increasingly shitty world. But when politicians make a big show of it, especially these right-wing champions of gun proliferation and American jingoism, it’s sickening because everyone knows it’s simply lip service and not genuine in the least. Worst of all, they take no actual action because doing so would mean they’d be perceived as “weak” by their frothy-mouthed supporters. Can’t have that, can we? Can’t risk those votes!
Not to mention that these shootings are a huge boost to their religious and racist agendas. I’ll bet Ted Cruz actually gets a raging boner each time news of a new shooting hits the wire. “OMG another one! I hope it was a Muslim! Ohhhh, baby…”
Meanwhile, people keep getting murdered, gun sales spike, and soon it will all happen again. And how fucked-up is it that we’re now used to it? We are a sick, sick country.
Oh, this is hiiiiii-larious! Can’t you just hear the petulant whining in her voice? It’s the sound of a vapid troglodyte who’s finally figuring out that her hateful views are not supported by all the American retail giants. Because, apparently, it’s incredibly important for bigots to be able to shop in stores that support bigotry. Whatever, lady.
Mission America’s Linda Harvey has penned her latest unseemly screed on WorldNetDaily, this time lamenting that Religious Right activists such as herself are running out of places to shop — because they’ve boycotted pro-LGBTQ businesses.
She writes: “Well, it’s that time again — time to get out the Christmas list and start hitting the stores. The problem is — what stores? For any Christian who wants to spend hard-earned dollars with family-friendly, Christian-affirming retailers, restaurants and service providers, the list is growing shorter all the time.”

Well boo-fuckin’-hoo. I guess you’ll be doing all your shopping at Hobby Lobby and Chick-Fil-A this year, hmmm? Now get back to work! Don’t you have a cross to burn somewhere? And those Obama effigies can’t flog themselves, you know. Priorities, people!
It’s been mighty interesting watching anti-choicers distance themselves from the recent shooting at Planned Parenthood. It’s especially fun watching these particular fuckwits squrim, because to me they are indirectly responsible for what happened.
David Daleiden, the head of the Center for Medical Progress, the group that released controversial and heavily edited videos of Planned Parenthood employees earlier this year, said that he did not support violence against the organization.
“The Center for Medical Progress condemns the barbaric killing spree in Colorado Springs by a violent madman. We applaud the heroic efforts of law enforcement to stop the violence quickly and rescue the victims, and our thoughts and prayers are with the wounded, the lost, and their families,” he said in a statement.

A “violent madman”? Oh, that’s a good one. Yes, just dismiss him as a random wacko — not someone who took as gospel your bullshit accusations that Planned Parenthood is selling pieces of dead babies to the highest bidder. The shooter is probably a crackpot, but you fed his fears and paranoia with your bald-faced lies. Hell, the guy actually said “No more baby parts!” The term “baby parts” has been directly connected to your propaganda video for months. And can you honestly say he wouldn’t have done this if the right wing hadn’t ramped up its attacks on women’s health in the past couple of years? The amount of hate and terror coming from anti-choicers has reached ridiculous levels lately. And now people are dead.
Coordinated inflammatory partisan stunts like the fake Planned Parenthood videos provide motivation of mentally unstable domestic terrorists who subscribe to the extreme right-wing agenda and treat Republican lies as truth to attack.
Those Republican members of Congress, who plotted and carried out the campaign against Planned Parenthood, are indirectly responsible for an act of domestic terrorism.
Donald Trump and other Republicans are trying distance themselves from the domestic terrorist by calling him a maniac, but Republicans can’t escape the fact that the shooter was inspired by their attacks on Planned Parenthood.

I’m sure you’re cheering inside, though. You secretly hoped something like this would happen, because you can always distance yourself with a little P.R. spin. This kind of collateral damage suits your agenda just fine. Congratulations. Next time maybe it’ll be a bomb that takes out a dozen women at a clinic, and then you can throw a party!
I don’t suppose the media will be calling him a terrorist any time soon either, because white Christians are never terrorists in this country. They’re just “disturbed” or “loners”, or even just “violent madmen.” That terrorism stuff is for brown people, right?
The uproar about Starbucks not being Christmassy enough for some people (due to the lack of snowflakes on their seasonal cups) is entertaining, but entirely ridiculous and a waste of time. The 17-year-old twat who wrote the original article on that website for mouth-breathing conservative invertebrates (a.k.a. Breitbart) was obviously trolling for attention and outrage, and he got it by the truckload. Come on…how can anyone possibly take this seriously?
WAR ON CHRISTMAS: STARBUCKS RED CUPS ARE EMBLEMATIC OF THE CHRISTIAN CULTURE CLEANSING OF THE WEST
“We’re embracing the simplicity and the quietness of it. It’s [a] more open way to usher in the holiday,” said their CEO.
You can see what’s going on here. More open? You mean, you’re trying not to “offend” anyone. Frankly, the only thing that can redeem them from this whitewashing of Christmas is to print Bible verses on their cups next year.
The allegation that a lack of snowflakes on a cup is equal to throwing Jesus off a cliff is utterly ridiculous, of course, and from what I’ve been reading it seems that a lot of Christians agree that this whole Red Cup thing is a non-issue. But we’ve gotten used to hearing unhinged screechings from Christians about this bullshit “war on Christmas” they’ve invented, and this one is juuuuust crazy enough to seem like a real complaint — and tons of liberal-minded folks are completely flipping out about it, sparking a barrage of retaliatory memes. Well played, conservative troll-thing. You know just how to push some peoples’ buttons.
Once again, Snopes comes to the rescue with some level-headedness:
It should also be noted that Starbucks could not have removed any overtly Christian symbols from their cups, because they never used them to begin with. Starbucks’ holiday cups typically feature general winter holiday symbols such as snowmen, carolers, and ornaments, which (although they may be associated with Christmas) are either secular in origin or not exclusively Christian.
Oh yeah, and Starbucks still sells Christmas cards and advent calendars in their stores. So come on, people: don’t feed the trolls, because you’re only feeding their egos.
Just the name “National Religious Liberties Conference” screams insanity-tinged Christian hysteria. And boy, does it deliver! Gays should be put to death, birth control is made of tiny babies, “Frozen” turns your little girls into lesbians…it’s quite the list of unhinged religious bullshit. And the three most extremely anti-gay GOP candidates are proudly attending this conference in order to tell the world “Yes, we support all this hateful stuff and we wanna run the country. Praise Jesus!” It’s utterly despicable, but we shouldn’t be surprised.
And no, “Frozen” won’t turn your child gay…but it will hook them on bad musicals.
Three GOP Candidates Join Pastor Who Thinks Frozen Turns Kids Gay
Next week, Des Moines, Iowa will play host to the National Religious Liberties Conference—a warm, welcoming place where you get to hear about how birth control literally fills women’s wombs with tiny dead fetus babies and how homosexuals should be put to death. Naturally, GOP candidates Ted Cruz, Bobby Jindal, and Mike Huckabee were more than happy to sign up.
Five minutes of truth from a preacher who knows exactly what to say and how it needs to be delivered. The Christian press is falling all over itself to point out that he doesn’t condone gay marriage, and it doesn’t surprise me that they’re focusing on that instead of all the other stuff he said. Who cares if he doesn’t think gay marriage is OK? Most preachers don’t. But in the larger picture, the rest of his message is what’s going to have an impact. Or at least I hope it will.
This is quite delicious: Christians who demand that kids be taught religion in public schools under the guise of “freedom of religion” are quickly finding out that something other than their religion might be brought up. Even though the material on Islam is in a purely historical context, they’re flipping their wigs and calling it “indoctrination.” But reading Bible passages in the classroom is just fine and dandy!
Funny how these people will vehemently defend the Constitution but blatantly ignore that inconvenient bit about separating church and state. Kinda like the way they pick and choose which parts of the Bible to follow.
on a new measure pending in the state legislature that would prohibit “anything deemed ‘religious doctrine’ ” for public school students in ninth grade or younger.
State education officials explained that secular information about religion is sometimes included in school curriculum. The Tennessean pointed, for example, to students being exposed to the Five Pillars of Islam in order to “provide historical context about the influence the religion had on regions of the world.” The same article quoted a Nashville social studies teacher who noted the Muslim world’s role in bringing us algebra and influencing the Renaissance.
And this evidently doesn’t sit well with some in the area. Butt, a longtime Sunday school teacher, does not specifically identify any faith tradition in her bill, but given the larger context, it appears the ban on lessons that include “religious doctrine” is motivated by concerns surrounding Islam.
