Somebody please tell me again just who is abusing his power as President. Obama? What? Fuck you — Bush actually gave permission for our government to torture people. He should be brought to trial for this crime, end of story.
WASHINGTON — The American Civil Liberties Union on Thursday joined a growing chorus in the human rights community calling for a special prosecutor to investigate whether former president George W. Bush violated federal statutes prohibiting torture.
In his new memoir and ensuing book tour, Bush has repeatedly admitted that he directly authorized the waterboarding of three terror suspects. Use of the waterboard, which creates the sensation of drowning, has been an iconic and almost universally condemned form of torture since the time of the Spanish Inquisition.
Except for a brief period during which a handful of Bush administration lawyers insisted that the exigencies of interrogating terror suspects justified its use, waterboarding has always been considered illegal by the Justice Department. It is also a clear violation of international torture conventions.

Apparently a lot of people are really excited that Barbara and Laura Bush are publicly supportive of certain “evil liberal ideas” like health care reform, abortion rights, homosexuals in office, and gay marriage. Like, OMG!
She may have been born into a Republican family, but Barbara Bush, the 28-year-old daughter of former President George W. Bush, sounded more like a Democrat this weekend during an interview with Fox News. When “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace asked her whether she supports President Obama‘s health care reform plan, she responded: “I guess I’m glad the bill was passed.”
Sure, it’s always nice when unexpected people support those things…and yet, I’m also unimpressed. Where were these bold opinions back when they really mattered? They let themselves be a mouthpiece for whatever bullshit the man of the family had to say, and chose to sit on the sidelines rather than speak their own minds while peoples’ rights were being trampled. Anything to keep Georgie in office, you know. And now we’re supposed to believe they’re “courageous” for speaking their minds? Too little too late, ladies. These days I don’t give two shits what any Bush thinks, and the majority of America doesn’t either. Back to the country club with you.
So I’m sitting here at work, wanting to watch the inauguration but the company’s network is too jammed to let any decent streaming video through. (My PC at home is recording it via Hulu.com, hopefully it’s working…but surely it’ll be available on any number of DVDs being hawked by networks trying to make a quick buck.)
Anyway, I’m trying to figure out how I feel about today. Part of me is jubilant: “Finally we’re getting rid of that slimy little criminal puppet! Finally the embarrassment I’ve felt for my country is beginning to ease! Finally there’s a glimmer of hope that maybe we’re not completely screwed after all!” I’m also indulging my mean-spirited side and relishing the thought of Republicans around the nation squirming in their seats as waves of fear and loathing wash over them. This worldwide celebration must be making them physically and spiritually ill. When was the last time the world celebrated the election of a Republican this way? It must be filling these right-wing blockheads with dread and despair and embarrassing defeat. It’s delicious, and I hope they feel this way for months to come. They’ve earned it.
Then there’s the other side of me saying: Oh shit…this country is so desperate for a change that they’re expecting miracles from Obama, and look at the fucked-up mess he’s inherited from the aforementioned puppet. People are going crazy over this, their hopes are getting unrealistically high. And knowing how much blockage he’ll encounter from the Republicans, they may be headed for a lot of disappointment. So it’s a mixture of optimism and wariness of being too optimistic. The hype and expense of this event is unbelievable… Rush Limbaugh is calling it “the Immaculate Inauguration.” I hate to say it, but I sort of agree with him on this one. It feels like blind hope with unrealistic expectations. But maybe that’s just me being a cynical, late-30’s curmudgeon. 🙂
We can’t trust that the Dems won’t screw him over as well, either. After all, we’ve been burned by the “change” mantra before, right? The Dems won their majority a couple of years ago with big talk about ending or severely limiting the war, and instead they’ve fed it and kept it alive beyond all reason. Is Obama really going to do great things? And more importantly, will his fellow politicians allow it? I guess we’ll find out soon enough. We have to give him a chance, but we should also pay careful attention.
AlterNet has posted a must-see story titled The 10 Most Awesomely Bad Moments of the Bush Presidency. It’s a painful read, but well worth it. It’s simply astonishing how much damage this man has done to our country and our relationship with others during his so-called Presidency… He and his administration has been endlessly greedy, corrupt, criminally clueless, and power-mad, and yet the dumber half of our population still voted for the bastard twice. I blame them just as much for the mess he’s created.
If anyone out there still has any doubt as to how much Bush has fucked our country into a broken, bleeding mess, all you have to do is read this painful and damning summary of the BushCheney Legacy. I’ve never seen these facts and figures arranged in such a comprehensive way…it’s good for getting the Big Picture but bad for your peace of mind. If you’re in a good mood now, you can kiss it goodbye if you choose to read it! (I still highly suggest you give it a look.)
See, this is one of many reasons why I have little hope that things will ever get better in this country. I think that America is going to elect another Republican pigfucker who will continue to wage war on the rest of the world and sink us further into debt and cultural ruin. But hey, that’s just me.
(Speaking of pigfuckers, how about those T.V. “military analysts” who are actually the Pentagon’s regurgitators? Not too surprising, hmmm? Lying and manipulation: more hallmarks of Bush & Dick’s legacy of crapulence.)
“President” Bush visits with one of the Common Folk™ on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Oh, this is priceless.
Hillary recently unveiled her revamped plan to reform our healthcare, but the most astonishing quote from this story came fom the Secretary of Health and Human Services:
Leavitt told the USA TODAY editorial board that Bush will veto a Democratic plan emerging from Congress that would add $35 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the Children’s Health Insurance Program over five years. In doing so, Leavitt said, Bush will urge Congress to join him in seeking coverage for all Americans. “He’d like to see the larger debate begin,” Leavitt said. “The very best opportunity we have may well be in the next 15 months.”
Bush, you monkey-brained little shitweasel. You’d like to see the debate begin, hmmm? It’s been going on for years, for fuck’s sake! And if you hadn’t been spending so much time during your painfully long terms in office waging wars at the behest of your corporate masters, getting thousands of people killed in the process, maybe you could have done something useful and beneficial to this country. Don’t even pretend you give a shit about healthcare. Go play in your oilfields, that’s where your interests really lie.
There’s nothing like a little bit of Dubya assholery to get me posting again. 🙂
